Transforming the Teaching and Learning Landscapes: Reimaging and Redefining Lesson Planning and Delivery for 21st Century Classrooms

Dr. Colin A. Ferreira, the developer of the FETL Model and Span-Math advanced course and national competition, is currently a Distinguished Mathematics Teacher and adjunct college Mathematics professor in Dallas, Texas, and a part-time lecturer in the Faculty of Education and Humanities at the University of Guyana. He recently served as a 2023-2024 Global Schools Advocate for Global Schools, which is an initiative of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). In this role, he implemented some of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in his classroom, school, and internationally. He is an innovator, Cofounder, President/CEO, philanthropist, business consultant, PhD data analysis expert, and author of five educational textbooks. He is truly passionate about transforming the teaching and learning landscapes for Mathematics and other subjects on a global level. Dr. Ferreira, through BRIEE, has established numerous educational partnerships with schools in India and Botswana, which resulted in him facilitating webinars for Building Competencies in Mathematics and Pedagogical Best Practices. One of his most cherished moments is delivering hundreds of hours of live instruction to students in Guyana during the COVID-19 Pandemic and mobilizing a team of dedicated teachers from across the globe to teach in several areas. Furthermore, Dr. Ferreira was featured on Walden University’s LinkedIn page under Small Business as an outstanding graduate who is affecting positive social change in the world, on November 26, 2022.
Dr. Ferreira has a track record of achieving academic excellence in state assessments and developing innovative Mathematics programs. In September 2022, Dr. Ferreira earned the Distinguished Teacher designations from his school district and Texas Education Authority’s 3rd highest teaching distinctions, “Recognized” after a robust review of his teaching effectiveness and contributions under three domains: Leadership, Contributions to the Profession, and Lifelong Learning. In September 2023, Dr. Ferreira continued his upward trend towards higher levels of Teaching Excellence by receiving the second-highest Teaching Excellence designation in the State of Texas, “Exemplary” Designation.

Enhancing Intercultural Competence: Preparing American Students for European Cultures

James Tanoos, Ph.D., is a Clinical Associate Professor at Purdue University in Indiana, USA. He has worked in various roles in higher education for more than 20 years, earning his Bachelor’s degree from Purdue University, his Master’s degree from Indiana University, and his Doctorate from Purdue University.
He has published articles in more than forty-two international journals and has presented academic work at more than twenty-seven international academic conferences on a range of disciplines including international economics, supply chain management, educational pedagogy, operations management, and industrial technology, including the invited keynote presentation at five international conferences. As a longtime advocate of undergraduate research experiences, he is an instructor/mentor for Purdue’s CURE, OUR Scholars, and DUIRI programs. Jim participates in editorial reviews for several global academic journals and is a peer-reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission in Chicago, IL. Prof. Dr. Ute Gartzen-Wiegand is Vice President for Academic Affairs at INU – Innovative University of Applied Sciences. As a Professor of International Business Administration, she teaches Agile Project Management. She earned her PhD at RWTH Aachen University after studying Business Administration at RWTH Aachen and Finance at Hult Business School, London. With extensive experience in higher education, research, and industry collaboration, she has led initiatives in economic development and technology transfer. Due to her portfolio, she is particularly interested in online teaching and innovative teaching methods.

Assoc. Prof. Rachel V. Smydra

Rachel V. Smydra is an Associate Professor in the Department of English, Creative Writing, and Film at Oakland University. In addition to teaching courses in writing and literature, she serves as the Internship Coordinator for English majors to assist students in bridging their academic studies with real-world professional experiences. Smydra’s service has included roles as a service-learning faculty fellow, Center of Teaching Learning faculty fellow, administrative hearings chair of the Academic Conduct Committee, and an editorial board member for Advances in Online Education: A Peer-Reviewed Journal. Smydra’s research focuses on building strong student-instructor relationships by using high-impact active learning practices, including integrating multimedia resources, such as podcasts, to deepen student engagement and foster critical thinking. Her current projects center around examining faculty perceptions of academic writing, infusing a geocritical lens into the literature classroom, and exploring student perceptions around curiosity.

Dr. Hsiaomei Tsai

Dr. Hsiaomei Tsai holds Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Curriculum & Instruction and Literacy from Utah State University. She is an experienced Chinese Dual Language Immersion (DLI) teacher in the United States and a two-time recipient of the prestigious “Hats Off” award from her school district for her contributions to education. Her research focuses on L2 education, Chinese pedagogy, intercultural communicative competence, and Chinese DLI curriculum development. Dr. Tsai is dedicated to enhancing L2 literacy in Chinese as a L2 and fostering cultural understanding through authentic and effective instructional practices.

Dr. Elfneh Bariso

Dr. Elfneh Bariso is a Senior Lecturer in Further Education and Skills at Canterbury Christ Church University, UK. Dr Bariso holds a PhD in Lifelong Learning and ICT in Education. With extensive experience in teaching and training across diverse educational contexts in the UK, Eritrea, and Ethiopia, Dr Bariso specializes in language teaching, teacher education, and the integration of ICT in education. His research interests include teachers’ professional experiences, emotional labor in further education, and the role of ICT in learning. Dr Bariso is also an active contributor to research development, a reviewer for international journals, and the director of a development NGO, AHEAD, aheadcharity.org As a doctoral supervisor, he is passionate about fostering innovative, evidence-based practices and supporting students in their academic and research journeys. Dr Bariso was the winner of the Most Promising Researcher of the year award 2024 in his Faculty. In 2022 he also received an award for his contribution to community development in Ethiopia.

Dr. Saeid Safaei Movahhed

Dr. Saeid Safaei Movahhed holds a PhD in Curriculum Studies. His research interests include qualitative research, workplace learning and teachers’ professional development. He has publications in international journals and presented in some well-known conferences in all around the world such as Oxford University, Geneva University, Vienna University, etc. He has been working as a professor in Khwarizmi University, University of Tehran, and Teacher Education University of Iran.

Dr. Magdalena De Stefani

Dr. Magdalena De Stefani is Director of Ivy Thomas Memorial School in Uruguay and holds a PhD in Education from the University of Manchester (UK). Currently pursuing an MBA at the University of York (UK), she integrates academic research with strategic leadership. Her work focuses on digital technologies, organisational learning, and institutional culture, particularly in bilingual and digitally mediated settings. She is the author of several book chapters and journal articles, and has contributed to research teams focused on intercultural communication, arts-based inquiry and educational technology, bridging theory and practice across diverse educational contexts.

Assoc. Prof Natalie Lavoie

Assoc. Prof Natalie Lavoie is an associate professor at the University of Quebec in Rimouski and holds a Ph.D. in psychopedagogy. Her recent research has focused on writing, particularly on graphomotor skills (manuscript, cursive, pencil, keyboard), spelling, writing strategies and pedagogical practices to develop these skills. She founded and directed the Chair of Research on Academic Perseverance and Literacy. Additionally, she has received multiple research grants and was awarded the Alcide Horth distinction as well as the Excellence in Research and Creation Award from the University of Quebec.

Dr. Jessy Marin

Dr. Jessy Marin holds a doctorate in educational psychology. She is a professor at the Université du Québec à Rimouski. In her research, she is interested in the teaching and learning of writing. His most recent work has focused on an integrated and differentiated approach to teaching spelling and on collaborative writing.

Dr. Nina Ivashinenko

Dr. Nina Ivashinenko is a lecturer at the University of Glasgow, teaching Research methods in social science, social inequality and diversity courses, working with students from undergraduate to PhD levels. She contributed to the university as an International Coordinator for the international master’s program from 2012 to 2017. Nina co-convenes the Migration and Mobilities Research Group and actively engages in research on migration. As a member of the scholarship of teaching and learning community, she is deeply involved in discussions about digital innovation and technology for education.

Dr. Sylvia Rossi

Dr. Sylvia Rossi is a certified English Teacher with fifteen years of teaching experience of English as a Foreign Language. She has taught the Toefl Preparation, Intermediate English, Effective Business Communication, and Advanced English Courses at the University of Monterrey, Mexico. In addition, she has experience teaching Business English at all levels to executives at different companies. She is a certified Oral Examiner for the Cambridge speaking exams and also for the IELTS exam. She has a Degree in Chemical Engineering from Universidad Metropolitana in Caracas, and a Ph.D. in Particle Technology from Imperial College of Science, Technology, and Medicine, in London. She has previous experience giving oral presentations at international conferences abroad in England, Canada and France in the field of particle technology, and has published her work in various scientific journals. She enjoys reading, swimming and cycling.

Dr. J. Elizabeth Casey

Dr. J. Elizabeth Casey, Ph.D., received her degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Clemson University in 2011. She is an Associate Professor at Lamar University, serving in her second year as Department Chair. She has been active in education for 25 years and is a certified Texas teacher with experience in teaching all subjects in 4th and 5th-grade classrooms. In her current role, she works with faculty to improve the yearlong residency program at Lamar University. A yearlong residency provides an enhanced experience, and early research suggests a better preparation pathway towards becoming a certified educator. Dr. Casey’s research interests include metacognitive strategies to support English learners in the content areas, innovative educational technology, and effective supports for students with exceptionalities.

Prof. Anies Al-Hroub

Prof. Anies Al-Hroub is a Tenured Professor of Educational Psychology and Special Education, the elected President of the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children (WCGTC) for the term 2025-29, and the former Chairperson of the Department of Education at the American University of Beirut from 2015 to 18. Al-Hroub has served as the Convener of the Graduate Program in School Guidance and Counseling since 2012 and has led the Special Education Program since 2006. He holds a Ph.D. and MPhil in Special Education from the University of Cambridge, an M.A. in Special Education, and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Jordan. Al-Hroub’s research, published in prominent international journals and five books, focuses on vulnerable and marginalized populations, twice-exceptional and special needs children, inclusive education, and gifted learners. He has been a Visiting Scholar at institutions such as the University of Connecticut (2018-19), the University of Cambridge (2009-10), and the School of Advanced Social Studies (SASS) in Slovenia (2017). He has led projects supported by UNICEF, UNRWA, UNESCO, the British Academy, USAID, the World Bank, the European Union, the Welfare Association, and the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI). Prof. Lanzhen Chen

Prof. Lanzhen Chen is a Professor at Gannan Medical University in China. Doctorate in Education from Xiamen University; part-time doctoral supervisor. Peer review expert for China’s Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Natural Science Foundation; undergraduate education and teaching assessment expert appointed by the Ministry of Education. Research areas include interdisciplinary education, medical-engineering integration, and international comparative education.

Dr. Jill Killough

Dr. Jill Killough earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Nutrition at Texas Woman’s University. She began at Lamar University teaching in the accredited dietetic internship program in 1999. In 2008, she became the Director of the internship program. In 2018, she stepped into the role of the Department Chair. Dr. Killough is currently the Interim Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the College of Education & Human Development. In all roles, her primary focus is to provide quality evidence-based instruction, practice experiences, and improvement processes. Within her leadership roles, she achieves a balanced blend of management, research, and service.

Dr. Marjorie Hall Haley

Dr. Marjorie Hall Haley is tenured Professor of Education at George Mason University (GMU) in Fairfax, VA (US). She is a former Spanish, French, German, and ESL teacher. Dr. Haley holds a PhD in Foreign/World Language Education and English as a Second Language from the University of Maryland, College Park. She has also earned a Master’s degree in education and advanced studies certificates from Towson University and Johns Hopkins University, respectively.

At George Mason University she teaches World Language methods and ESL methods courses as well as doctoral courses in Second Language Acquisition Research, Multicultural Education, and Multilingual Learners with Diverse Educational Needs. She is actively involved in ongoing action research projects with teachers at local, national, and international levels. She has conducted four international teacher action research studies focused on the impact of implementing the Multiple Intelligences theory in foreign/second language classes. These studies included over 3,000 students in 14 states and 6 countries. Additionally, Dr. Haley headed 14 consecutive years of StarTalk programs (federally funded for the professional development of teachers transitioning to teach in the US). These year-round programs were held on the campus of GMU over the summer and online during the school year, while meeting the needs of Arabic, Chinese, Korean, and Russian teachers.

Dr. Haley’s research and publication record is robust. Research areas include: Brain-based teaching/learning strategies and generative Artificial Intelligences-enabled tools for multilingual learners; meeting the needs of critical need teachers; and teacher positionality and identity. Two of her well-known books are, Content-based second language teaching and learning: An interactive approach (2nd Ed.) (2014) and Brain-compatible differentiated instruction for English language learners (2010). Mrs. Sawitree Muangyai Reilly

Mrs. Sawitree Muangyai Reilly is an accomplished English instructor at the Faculty of Arts, Silpakorn University, with over 15 years of experience in teaching English. She holds a Master of Arts degree in English for Business and Industry, which has equipped her with specialized knowledge in English for Specific Purposes (ESP). Her professional journey includes serving as the Head of the English Department, where she demonstrated strong leadership and academic commitment. Mrs. Reilly’s expertise lies in the field of ESP, and she maintains a strong interest in advancing research within this area, continually contributing to the development of English education tailored to professional and business contexts.

Ms. Merve Gultekin

Ms. Merve Gultekin is an English language teacher currently working at a private school in Ankara, Turkiye. She received her BA in English Language Teaching from TED University in 2020 and is expected to complete her MA in the same field at Başkent University in June 2025. Her academic interests include English as a Foreign Language (EFL), pragmatics, and intercultural communication in language education.

Mrs. Rashida Pervaiz

Mrs. Rashida Pervaiz holds a Master’s degree and an M.Phil in Urdu Literature, as well as another Master’s degree in Pakistan Studies. Currently, she is pursuing her Ph.D in Education from Lincoln University College, Malaysia Campus, building on her 16 years of experience in the education profession. As a lecturer of A-Level Urdu Literature at Beaconhouse College Program, she has developed a strong passion for teaching and research.

As a Ph.D scholar, she has had the opportunity to present her research paper at the 2nd International Conference on Global Education 2024, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Additionally, her research article, “Evaluating Quality Assurance Mechanisms in Education Management: The Role of Technology, Stakeholders, and Regional Variations,” has been published in the International Journal on Emerging Issues in Social Science, Arts, and Humanities.

Mr.Mika Vanhanen

Mr.Mika Vanhanen (M.Ed.) is a peace educator and founder of Peace Circle®, a values-based learning model integrating sustainability, symbolic learning, and community action. With 30 years of experience in environmental and global education—including early work with the GLOBE program—he also founded the ENO online school, which led to Peace Circle. His work has received recognition, including the WWF Panda Prize and Finland’s State Award for Public Information. He incorporates music as a meaningful element in his educational approach.

Mrs.Aisha Umar Adamu

Mrs.Aisha Umar Adamu is an Education program specialist, Qualitative researcher, and PhD scholar in Curriculum Studies at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Nigeria. She currently serves as the Associate Regional Programs Manager, Kaduna Region for TaRL Africa, where she oversees the implementation of TaRL Program- an evidence-based program that equips children to acquire Foundational Literacy and Numeracy skills in public schools. With over 20 years of cross-sector experience, Aisha is passionate about evidence-based instruction, teacher capacity development, and government integration of impactful programs. Her interests lie in scalable education reforms, community engagement, and curriculum innovation.

Ms. Natasha Nuralanis binti Zulkipli

Ms. Natasha Nuralanis binti Zulkipli received a Bachelor of Teaching in TESL from the Teacher Education Institute of Malaysia, 2015 and a Master of Education in Early Childhood Care and Education from Sultan Idris Education University, Perak, Malaysia, in 2018. She is a committed educator who has been actively involved in various programs and conferences at the national and international levels as an adjudicator, facilitator, panellist, presenter, and speaker. Her enthusiasm in bridging the widening technology gap between rural and urban students has been recognized with the Outstanding Innovator in Language Education at the Asian Education Conclave & Awards 2024, in Bangkok, Thailand. Mrs.Mukhamedova Odinakhon Makhamadalievna

Mrs.Mukhamedova Odinakhon Makhamadalievna is an educator from the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek, where she began her career in the Foreign Philology Department in 2019. Driven by a passion for student advancement, she was selected as a finalist for the prestigious JDS Project in 2024. Currently residing in Japan, Odinakhon is a first-year master’s student in the Global Education program at Naruto University of Education, her current research focuses on the impact of implementing career guidance in educational settings, aiming to enhance student preparedness for their professional futures and contribute to educational advancement in Uzbekistan.

Ms. Janine Bittner

Ms. Janine Bittner graduated in Geography, Biology (Major), and in Pedagogy (Minor) for Teacher Education at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. She has worked as a research associate and lecturer at several universities in Germany. Janine received intensive postgraduate training in research methodology, statistics, higher education teaching, and science management. Since 2022, Janine has been working full-time on her phd thesis in geography.

Ms. Victoria Olohigocho Omachi is a Learning and Development Analyst with a Master’s in Education Policy from Harvard University. Ms. Qian Wang

Ms. Qian Wang is a PhD student at University of Malaya and a senior lecturer at Jinggangshan University in China. Her research focuses on international education and Chinese language and literature, with a particular interest in enhancing the cross-cultural adaptation of international students in China. Combining academic insight with practical teaching experience, she explores strategies to support student integration and intercultural communication. Her work contributes to the development of more inclusive and effective educational environments for diverse learner populations.

Ms. Yueqing (Zee) Zhong

Ms. Yueqing (Zee) Zhong is a doctoral student and Dean Scholar at George Mason University (USA), specializing in Multicultural Multilingual Education. She holds an M.S. in Education from Johns Hopkins University and has experience teaching Mandarin to diplomats and advising multilingual learners. Her research focuses on translanguaging, teacher education, and AI integration in multilingual education. Zee explores cognitive strategies for supporting multilingual learners and investigates teacher assessment practices in diverse classrooms.

Mrs. Nandini Biswas

Mrs. Nandini Biswas is a Senior Language Lecturer at Abdullah Al Salem University, Kuwait, where she teaches English to engineering and marketing undergraduates. With over 20 years of experience in education, she has taught at elementary, secondary, and higher education levels, including leadership roles at the Canadian Bilingual School in Kuwait. She holds a Master’s in English from Jadavpur University and a B.Ed. from IGNOU, both in India. Her expertise includes curriculum design, differentiated instruction, and assessment development. Nandini is passionate about contextualized language learning and has engaged in professional development focused on teaching innovation, research ethics, and outcome-based education.

Ms. Nor Ruba’yah binti Abd Rahim

Ms. Hanane Zekkari is a PhD student in Educational Sciences at Abdelmalek Essaâdi University, Higher School of Education (École Normale Supérieure), Morocco. He holds a Master of Education Degree in “Gender Studies and Information Technology” from the University of the Aegean and a second Master of Science Degree in “e-Business and Digital Marketing” at the University of Western Macedonia. His Ph.D. thesis at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is in progress with the title ” Audiovisual creation and cultural communication with the use of New Technologies in Education”.
