Enhancing Intercultural Competence: Preparing American Students for European Cultures

James Tanoos, Ph.D., is a Clinical Associate Professor at Purdue University in Indiana, USA. He has worked in various roles in higher education for more than 20 years, earning his Bachelor’s degree from Purdue University, his Master’s degree from Indiana University, and his Doctorate from Purdue University.
He has published articles in more than forty-two international journals and has presented academic work at more than twenty-seven international academic conferences on a range of disciplines including international economics, supply chain management, educational pedagogy, operations management, and industrial technology, including the invited keynote presentation at five international conferences. As a longtime advocate of undergraduate research experiences, he is an instructor/mentor for Purdue’s CURE, OUR Scholars, and DUIRI programs. Jim participates in editorial reviews for several global academic journals and is a peer-reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission in Chicago, IL. Dr. Stefano Sandrone is an Italian neuroscientist and educationalist working at Imperial College London. He was awarded the Julia Higgins Award and the President’s Award from Imperial College London, the A. B. Baker Teacher Recognition Award from the American Academy of Neurology, and the Science Educator Award presented by the Society for Neuroscience. Dr. Wong Pui Man Molly

Dr. Wong Pui Man Molly obtained her PhD at the University of Cambridge. Dr. Wong is a Lecturer in the School of Biomedical Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is experienced in teaching biochemistry, physiology, and medical ethics, and previously received an Outstanding Teaching Award in 2012. She is dedicated to the teaching profession and has devoted time to teaching a wide range of courses in the School of Biomedical Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine. Her research interests include English Language Teaching, English Medium Instruction, and Teacher Training.

Prof. Dr. Oleksandra Liashenko

Prof. Dr. Oleksandra Liashenko is a Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor at the Ukrainian Catholic University, combines and advances economic and management sciences knowledge in educational practice for over 20 consecutive years. Prof. Liashenko conducts deep and detailed research on economic security issues spanning from micro to macro levels and has developed and taught original courses such as “Managerial Intelligence”, “Hybrid World” and “Conflict Design: From Local to Global”, has extensive and diverse experience in adult education, specializes in Serviсe-learning. Since the outset of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, prof. Liashenko is the founder of the educational volunteer project “Security Thinking”.

Dr. Thoko Poppy Mahlangu

Dr. Thoko Poppy Mahlangu received her PhD degree in Assessment and Quality Assurance in Education and Training from the University of Pretoria (South Africa) in 2016. She is the recipient of the Lifetime Golden Key International Honour Society Membership (University of Pretoria Chapter) from 2016. She is currently a Geography/Geography Education lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa). Her research interests include sustainable development, environmental issues, water, teaching and assessment, academic performance, population dynamics, women and gender issues.

Prof. Dr. Dulce Maria Franco

Prof. Dr. Dulce Maria Franco has a PhD in Education Sciences (University of Évora). She is a member of Direction of the Master’s in Teaching (CN/Mat). Professor and Researcher at CeIED from Universidade Lusófonay –Center of Lisbon. Specializes in the training of teachers and trainers in technological areas. She is a member of research teams in projects funded by FCT and the C. Gulbenkian Foundation. She is the author and co-author of books and articles published in national and international journals, as well as textbooks adopted in public and public schools in Portugal.

Dr. Per Blomqvist

Dr. Per Blomqvist is a senior lecturer at the Department of Teaching and Learning, at Stockholm University. He received his PhD in Language Education in 2018 with the thesis: “Teachers’ conversation about writing assessment: Norms, pedagogical decisions, and grading”. Prior to that, he was a lecturer at the Department of Language Education, at Stockholm University. His research focuses mainly on writing instruction and writing assessment in Upper Secondary School and in Higher Education. Two ongoing research projects are: “Writing Cultures and Formative Assessment Practices in Civics and Swedish in the Upper Secondary School”, and “Pedagogical Perspectives on Teacher Students’ Academic Writing”.

Prof. Dr. Fabricio Guevara Viejó

Prof. Dr. Fabricio Guevara Viejó is the President of the Universidad Estatal de Milagro in Ecuador. He has a PhD in Administration and also a PhD in Statistics. Dr. Fabricio Guevara won the Extraordinary Award in his Doctoral Program in Applied Multivariate Statistics at the University of  Salamanca for his academic excellence among the doctoral students.

Mr.Gopal Krishna

Mr.Gopal Krishna is an independent researcher, life skill coach and entrepreneur based in India who has 3.5 years’ experience in software industry (Microsoft alumnus) in the USA and has done fulltime fundamental research in theoretical physics, linguistics, psychology, philosophy and education in last 8.5 years in India to help create a happy and moral world at the earliest and forever. He has a B. Tech in Computer Science from IIT Kanpur (India) (2002-2006) and a MS in Computer Science from UIUC (USA) (2006-2007). He got all India rank 85 in JEE Advanced 2002, the entrance examination for admission into the B. Tech program at various Indian Institute of Technology institutes (IITs) and was awarded Andrew and Shana Laursen Fellowship, 2006 being one of only 10 fellowship awardees among the 100 MS and Phd students in Computer Science department at UIUC admitted that year. He is currently engaged in publishing his research in the above mentioned 5 areas in various prestigious journals and conferences in these areas and is also writing a book “Lovism: The Science of Happiness!” to present a holistic, all-encompassing vision of life based on his research work in all these important areas under the over-arching philosophy framework of “Lovism”, a philosophy founded by him in 2024 based on the 3 most important fundamental principles of life which in the descending order of importance are, namely, universal love, authentic humility and creativity so that the humanity may get all the insights and techniques required to live a truly happy, moral as well as creative life individually as well as collectively forever!

Mr. Popoola Oluwasegun Oladipupo

Mr. Popoola Oluwasegun Oladipupo is a science educator, Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM scholar, and a registered member of the Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN). He is currently teaching Curriculum Planning and Implementation in Pädagogische Hochschule Freiburg, Germany, as an exchange Ph.D candidate. Oladipupo is a full-time Lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria.

Mr. Cristian Camilo Reyes-Galeano

Mr. Cristian Camilo Reyes-Galeano is a PhD student in Education and Society and Master in Didactics of Foreign Languages from the Universidad de La Salle. BA in Modern Languages from the Universidad del Quindio. Tenure professor at Universidad del Quindío and Researcher of the ESAPIDEX-B group in the line of Interculturality and bilingual training in educational contexts. His research interests focus on issues related to decoloniality and interculturality in the teaching of foreign or second languages in rural educational contexts.

Mrs. Olga Nakonechna

Mrs. Olga Nakonechna is a PhD student at KROK University (Kyiv, Ukraine). She has master’s degrees: in Educational Institution Management and Project Management. In 2023 Mrs.Olga became a Certified Specialist in Management Systems in Educational Organizations [ISO 21001:2019 (ISO 21001:2018, IDT), ISO 21001:2018]. She is the founder of the education center “Business Ethics and Etiquette School “, and a member of the Ukrainian Association of Adult Education. Her research interests include Adult education, Management of non-formal adult education institutions, and Quality of non-formal adult education. She also studies issues of the ethical environment in non-formal adult education.

Ms. Chenyu Yi is a Research Fellow at the Hilary Ballon Center for Teaching and Learning, New York University Abu Dhabi. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and is certified in the Scholarship of Educational Leadership, Curriculum, and Pedagogy. She researches disruptions in education and the workforce. Her research aims to illuminate how state-of-the-art Generative AI tools, like ChatGPT, can support teaching, learning, and workforce transformation in higher education.

Prof. Dr. Madoda Cekiso

Prof. Dr. Madoda Cekiso Madoda Cekiso, PhD, is Full Professor in the Department of Applied Languages at Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa. His areas of specialization are psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, and onomastics. He has published several articles in national and international journals and has supervised many master’s and doctoral students.

Prof. Alajab Ismail

Prof. Alajab Ismail is a professor of instructional technology and distance learning at the Arabian Gulf University (AGU). He has a B.Sc. & Education (physics), M.Ed. and Ph.D in instructional technology from Khartoum University (SUDAN). His career began as a teaching assistant in physics and instructional technology at Khartoum University. In 2005, he joined the Arabian Gulf University (Kingdom of Bahrain) as an assistant professor in instructional technology and distance learning, in 2012, he received a promotion to an associate professor and full professor in March 2021. He used to teach courses in learning theory, instructional design, tutoring and assessing distance students, research methods, and quantitative data analysis. He participated in devolving the distance teaching & training program, led the development of the King Hamad e-Learning Chair at AGU, and published many articles in International Journals supervised and assessed many masters and doctorate thesis in educational technology, science education, and computer science. In 2018 Professor Ismail Led the accreditation & endorsement of the Arabian Gulf University–Distance Learning Graduate Diploma and Master Degree by the Association for Educational Communications & Technology-AECT (October, 2018).

Dr. Bunmi Omodan

Dr. Bunmi Omodan is a senior lecturer at Walter Sisulu University in South Africa, an NRF-rated researcher with a Ph.D. in Education Management and Leadership. He’s the Editor-in-Chief of two academic journals and has published 87 articles and one edited book. His research is focused on social and African pedagogy, as well as conflict management.

Dr. Ana Sanchez

Dr. Ana Sanchez is a Spanish Professor at the Languages and Cultures Department of West Chester University, PA. She teaches Spanish courses at the 100, 200 and 300 level. She has also taught Culture Clusters and led study abroad programs to Costa Rica and Guatemala. Her specialty is Heritage Spanish Education. .

Dr. Neliza B. Cayaban

Dr. Neliza B. Cayaban, PhD in Reading Education is a Full Professor, former Chairperson of the Languages Department at Adamson University. She develops programs and trains ESL and EFL learners. She obtained a teaching certificate at South Carolina; 120 – hour TESOL/TESL/TEFL Certification at Oxford Seminars – USA; a member of WAESOL – USA.

Prof Sikheto Joe Kubayi

Prof Sikheto Joe Kubayi holds a PhD in African Linguistics from the University of South Africa (UNISA). He is a professor of Linguistics at the University of Limpopo, South Africa. His research interests include syntax, semantics, and language planning and policy.

Assoc, Prof. Osborn Risimati Chauke

Assoc, Prof. Osborn Risimati Chauke is an associate professor of African Languages at the University of Limpopo, South Africa. He holds a PhD in Literature from the same institution. His research interests include literature, onomastics and indigenous knowledge systems. He has presented papers in various conferences both nationally and internationally.

Prof.Dr. Simona Sava

Prof.Dr. Simona Sava has worked at the West University of Timisoara, Department of Education since 1997; in 2009 she became Full Professor. She was director of the Romanian Institute of Adult Education (2000-2013). She is a member of The International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame (and board member, between 2021-2023). Her topics of expertise are lifelong learning policies, professionalization along lifelong learning, educational management, educational policies, and social pedagogy.

Educating for the future: Emerging opportunities and challenges for science teachers.

Dr. Kedmon Hungwe is currently Professor of Cognitive and Learning Sciences  in the Department of Cognitive and Learning Sciences at Michigan Technological University. He was previously affiliated with the University of Zimbabwe where he served as a Senior Lecturer in Educational Communications and Technology. Additionally, he has extensive experience  in science and mathematics education and has designed, implemented and evaluated many projects  in the USA and Zimbabwe. His teaching portfolio has covered the areas of teacher education, instructional technology,  and  psychology.

One strand of Dr. Hungwe’s research has focused on the development of spatial visualization in relation to STEM education, cognitive studies of work, and learning and instruction. He has   presented  in a wide range of national and international forums. His work has appeared in leading journals in psychology, education, and media, including Mind, Culture and Activity, Journal of Adult Development, Journal of Curriculum Studies, Media Culture and Society, Compare: A Journal of Comparative and International Education, and the Historical Journal of Film, Radio and Television. More recently Dr. Hungwe has initiated research on children and youth. He is a contributing author to four  Zimbabwean secondary school science textbooks that have been cited as exemplary by the USAID and the World Bank.  Dr. Hungwe has also served on professional panels of the National Science Foundation, the Michigan Department of Education, and the American Psychological Association Panel on Women with Disabilities in STEM Education (WWDSE).

Dr. Haya Fayyad Abu Hussein is an assistant professor at the Department of Languages and Translation at Birzeit University, Palestine. She received her (BA) in English Language and Literature from An Najah National University, and her (MA) in the Arts of Teaching English from Al-Quds University-Bard College programme. In 2016, she was awarded a Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching at Indiana University in the United States of America. She completed her Doctorate at Yarmouk University, Jordan in Curriculum Studies and Methods of Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Dr. Fayyad Abuhussein is also a visiting research fellow at St. Antony’s and the Middle East Centre, University of Oxford.
